This book was first published by Haynes in 2002, and is the work of Healey Drivers Club member and well known Healey author and enthusiast, Bill Piggott. This reprint comes in the Veloce Classic Reprint series (www.veloce.co.uk).
Although first printed some fifteen years ago, the content remains fresh, and undated. It is in hardback, and runs to 160 pages, and is well illustrated with period production and competition photos, reprints of marketing material, and what were then current photos of owners cars. I still know a number of the cars today, and they continue to be maintained in the same immaculate condition. The cars are still largely still in the same ownership, a testament to the lasting affection for the marque.
The book covers the complete history, development, evolution, and production of the Big Healey from the early 100 through to the final Mk111 3000. The book is very ‘readable’, and not too biased towards excessive technical detail. However, I liked the inclusion of various comparisons of price and performance with other sportscars of the time.
Many Big Healey owners will no doubt already have the Haynes copy of this book on their bookshelf. If not, Veloce has given the opportunity to get a brand new copy, of very good quality, and which at £40 represents good value.
